KNOW ANYONE LIKE THIS?
A few months ago, Danny got a call from his troubled son. His son was complaining that he would have no place to sleep that night, so he was going to sleep behind a dumpster. When Danny asked him where his paycheck was that we knew he had received from his new job...he said, "I had to get a Smartphone." So, between spending his paycheck on food and a place to stay or sleeping behind a dumpster, he chose the dumpster.
When Danny questioned his decision, he said, "Dad, I've got to have a phone!" Wow..priorities!
Just before Christmas, our local news station reported on the great turnout at the Food Bank for a holiday meal. They showed a young man, carrying a two year old, picking up his free groceries...WITH A SMARTPHONE glued to his ear! Danny went ballistic.
Here in Florida, if you are on any kind of assistance, you can get a free phone with free minutes. This enables you to search for work or call for help in emergencies. It is a simple phone, no bells and whistles, but it gets the job done. Not good enough for some people, I guess. Much better to spend what little money you have on an expensive phone, instead of using that money for food and shelter.
People need to stop making bad choices and focus on the needs of their family, not their selfish wants.
Or is it just me? DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE LIKE THIS?

Some of the female shoplifters I have caught, who had their children with them, have stolen makeup and stuff they wanted for themselves personally. But none of the stuff they attempted to steal was actually for a baby/child...
They went to jail, and the kids were turned over to social services.
I know someone who had one of those "free" phones. She had all kinds of problems with it, I guess. BUT... There is a huge range of phones out there that are much less expensive than the smartphones. My husband and I have "pay-as-you-go" phones, just add 20 bucks every 90 days. I guess that wouldn't work for everyone, especially if your cell phone was your primary phone, but it keeps the cost down for us, since we use them mostly on an emergency basis.
Most people have the expensive phones, these days, especially younger people.
I would LOVE to have an iPhone, but it is not in the budget, for sure!
I just cannot understand why, parents would buy themselves Smartphones and neglect on their children having food and a home. It is shocking, but just goes to show, what priorities are for most of the young people nowadays.

That kind of thing just makes me furious. It is beyond ridiculous.
And people wonder why, with all the assistance programs we have, there are still so many in need. Many simply refuse to consider anything beyond what they want in the moment.
One of my clients has a daughter nearing 40 who is always asking for rent or gas money and invariably has the grandparents babysit on the weekends she has custody so that she can go get a tan and a manicure. That's just not ok.
Although you can probably judge your stepson, I wouldn't be so quick to judge someone on the TV, some plans give smart phones out for free for signing up. The food bank is run by donation and your family income is checked. Usually people go there on last resort. It's possible the guy lost his job in the last few weeks and had the phone before. You just can't judge by what's on the news. It could had been a family members phone they let him borrow till he got back on his feet. Adding a line is 10$ a month. People are always too quick to judge. And it leads to a lot of hate.
I've seen kids with iphones who got free lunch at school.

Maybe i do but i aint going to mention any names Just saying:)I dont have a real dad i never knew him I first meet Him when i was 9 years old and from that day on i havent even got to know him cause he was not in my life when i was growing up but at 18 i get a card from him not cool.Then My Mom comes to Me and says do you know that ya real dad died this year 2012 I go no oh well its his lost not mine.
I "contribute" with every cable/internet and phone bill to pay for those who "don't/can't" pay for these services... yet while teaching, I have seen "free lunch" kids having the "latest and greatest" gadgets I cannot afford... it's kinda crazy. I myself refused to fall prey to the cell phone "mania" until after 9/11. ^..^
The freedom to make bad choices. That's democracy.
Common sense isn't so common these days, if it ever was. We should probably have classes on rational thought and decision making from grade school and up since so many seem to be lacking these skills.

Horrible. I don't judge everyone on assistance though. When I obtained my smartphone, I had a job. Then I lost my job. Its an android that was basically the starter phone for the plan I'm on (with family.)
But yes I do know people like this. This one girl I know dropped out of school with no job, got ink done, a new phone, and then wanted money to help with rent. Yeah no.It is a condition of many people - both young and old. They have never learned to distinguish between want and need. I want a phone but I need food. I want a car but I need a place to live... they get it all mixed up.
There are a lot of people like this. I've known many people that say they have no money for food, or rent, but yet, they have expensive cell phones and high speed internet. They might have money for food or rent if they didn't have high speed internet or expensive cell phones.
I don't have a cell phone, but I do have internet...I also work in public housing and see this stuff all the time, sad ~ so very sad....happy new year anyway
